These will be
my first official words in this space as your new President, so perhaps I
should begin the next two years by thanking you for the confidence to elect me
to this important position within the association.
I will do my
best to serve the Congress and advance the interests of the building industry
in Chicago.
Of course, we
all stand on the shoulders of those who precede us, and CBC has a long line of
leaders dating back to 1939. In fact, this issue of The Edifice contains a list
of all the Presidents who have served the CBC since its inception.
On another
note, CBCs founding meetings took place in 1938 and 1939 and were held at
Chicagos Union League Club. As you know, the CBC maintains that tradition
by hosting its monthly lunch meetings at that very same locale. Not many
organizations can make that claim after all of these years.
The history of
the CBC has also expressed itself in yet another way this past year with the
return of the CBC Annual Golf Outing following its absence over the past few
years. With attendance dwindling at our June luncheons over the last couple of
years, it was proposed that we end our year in June with a great outdoor social
event, and apparently, we made the right decision! |
The recent CBC
Golf Outing, held on June 22nd at Bloomingdale Country Club, was a great
success, selling out all but two of its 144 golf slots and also garnering
substantial sponsorship participation. The course was in good condition, the
service was truly excellent, and the food was terrific. Hats off to Don Helmig
and his great staff at BGC for treating us like royalty. Im confident
that this event will continue to gain momentum and popularity in coming years.
Our September
21st meeting kicks off a new year at the CBC. Since CBC is really more about
the future than the past, your participation will allow us to keep our sights
focused forward and to realize the benefits of sharing valuable information
that keeps Chicagos building industry in the forefront of the future.
CBCs
kick-off program in September features Ms. Rosemarie Andolino of the
OHare Modernization Office in the City of Chicago, who will provide an
inside perspective of developments that will impact our local economy and our
businesses. OHare really holds great promise to keep Chicagolands
dynamic economy moving forward, and this meeting will overview the plans
currently underway.
On October
19th, the program will feature our associations Award of Honor.
Nominations soon close for the 2005 Award, and I urge you to submit a candidate
for consideration in order for the CBC to recognize a lifetime of
accomplishment within Chicagos building industry community.
Until next
time, enjoy the balance of your summer season, and we surely hope to see you at
the CBCs September 21, 2005 meeting! |
